The Center is actively engaged in outreach through our Research Envoys Program. The Program aims to train graduate students and postdocs in science communication to various audiences. Currently, our trainees give seminars at local institutions throughout the Atlanta area, including at historically black colleges and universities.
In the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021, this included remote seminars at Spelman College and Kennesaw State University. In-person seminars are scheduled for Fall 2021 at Oglethorpe University and Agnes Scott College.
The CMDI faculty is also actively engaged in Atlanta Science Festival and The Atlanta Science Tavern.
CMDI members participate in the SkypeaScientist program. Skype a Scientist program launched in 2017 as a way to connect classrooms with scientists, but with everyone now at home due to the pandemic, it’s been expanded to allow families to chat with experts as well. All you need is Skype, Zoom, or any other video chat platform. To connect to a CMDI scientist from the list below, please follow these instructions below. For any questions, please contact mavdonina3@gatech.edu
Step 1: You sign up using this form.
Step 2: There is a section on the sign- up form for teachers/parents to write in the specific scientist you want to work with. You can choose from one of our experts that are currently available for sessions.
Step 3: You'll get an e-mail from with your scientist’s contact information so you can pick a time to connect.
